About Me:
Who am I? Tough question. As my tag suggests, if you can make any sense of it at all, I was born in New York, lived many years in LA, and have lived the past 16 years in Amsterdam. I'm bilingual (English-Dutch), although I've learned that fluency is a relative matter. I find myself using Dutch grammar when speaking English, and vice-versa: ("Can I do the window open?") I'm a sociologist, whatever the hell that is, doing research in an academic hospital. I'm divorced (well, seriously separated in any case), and have two beautiful daughters (13 and 16)who live with me half of the week. I love music of all kinds, books, movies, walks in the rain (a handy liking in a country as wet as this one), Tuscany, a nice wine, good food, laughing, quiet moments, talking...and listening. I gave up my car 5 years ago, which is no small accomplishment for someone who lived in LA for many years. No more traffic jams and endlessly searching for parking spaces. Just a bicycle with 3 locks (this is Amsterdam). A friend shared with me a life's motto that makes a lot of sense to me: Work like you don't need the money; dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt.
