Meeting the Soul-Mate

A soul-mate relationship is an exploration of the dynamics of equality, mutual trust and respect. It is a mature, consciously loving relationship. It requires good communication skills, generally learned through the forgiveness process in previous, less conscious relationships. In a sense, all of one's previous relationships prepare one for full participation in this relationship.
The soul-mate cannot manifest until there is honesty and clarity in all of your relationships. If you are abandoning a previous marriage partner or your children in order to be with a new lover, you might as well face facts. You cannot find the soul-mate by abandoning any other human being. You must be right with all of your relationships. You must speak the truth fearlessly, but with great gentleness and compassion. Others need to know where you stand. They need to know how your commitment to them has changed and how it has remained the same. You demonstrate your love for them by having no secrets, by full disclosure of your thoughts and feelings. You treat them as you would wish to be treated if the situation were reversed. And so you are able to move on without abandoning, without acting in a careless, impulsive manner.
Genuine love for one person never results in unkind behavior toward another. This does not mean that you cannot revise your commitments. But it does mean that you enter the process of revision with respect and concern for the other, as well as with clarity about what you want.
